On Thursday March 28th, the VMMa (Flemish Media Company) organized the third edition of the TV Day, together with PUB Magazine and InSites Consulting. This year’s edition coped with humor in advertising, with our own CEO Kristof De Wulf as keynote speaker. The night ended in climax with the award ceremony of the TV Awards where the best tv spots of 2012 were chosen.
Stievie is a TV-watching application, which is currently being developed as a shared project between the 3 main broadcasting corporations in Flanders: VRT, VMMa and SBS Belgium in collaboration with InSites Consulting. The application will enable Flemish inhabitants to watch television on their smartphone or tablet, either live or with a slight delay (up to 36 hours back in time). In a test phase, 10,000 inhabitants of Flanders will get the chance to test Stievie via their iPhone and iPad.
If you are ever in London and want a great place to eat (and can get a table), try dinner at The Ivy. It is a beautiful room, the staff is friendly, and the food’s not bad! It’s one of those British institutions that has to be tried at least once. Convinced? Tempted? Want to know more? Well if you are, this takes me to the point of this blog. Word of mouth recommendations and the power of advocacy.

I had the pleasure of speaking at the WARC Next Generation Research Conference in January, along with Krista Cornelis from RTL. Krista kindly came over to talk with us about the community we ran on Facebook with fans of The Voice of Holland. A big show around the world, and none more so than in the Netherlands, where it was watched by over 3.3 million people out of a population of 17 million!
Co-written by Anneleen Boullart, Stijn Poffé, Timo Vandemaele and Hakim Zemni. A few weeks ago, the Belgian Media & Entertainment (M&E) team went on a ‘mini-teambuilding’. For the record: the ‘mini’ refers to the number of people attending (4 in this case) and the shorter timeframe (late afternoon/evening), definitely not to the intensity nor good spirits of them.
Did you know that NASA discovered a new planet with four suns last week? Actually, that’s not true. NASA didn’t discover it. It was discovered by amateur astrologers searching through data provided by NASA from the Kepler Space Telescope that has been available through a project called Planet Hunters. Is this the ultimate exercise in crowd sourcing?

For Hyves, the biggest social network in The Netherlands, InSites Consulting was privileged to do a research on brand understanding and perception. What characterizes Hyves-users the most, how do “Hyvers” use their favorite social network in relation to other networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, GooglePlus and Twitter? How well is Hyves performing when we analyze the users via the CRUSH-model? The research showed, that Hyves is 2 times more known by the Dutch internet population than LinkedIn and Twitter, the awareness for Facebook is equal. The research also showed that only 2 percent of the Dutch population has an account on all 5 major social networks. Yesterday, Hakim Zemni presented the results at Hyves HQ in Amsterdam. Check out the slides below for more interesting facts and figures and read the quote of Hyves-CEO Marc de Vries.
Good insights will lead to the discovery of something that is not yet obvious. They should be recognizable and real and must allow us to translate them into actionable business opportunities. Researchers are considered as experts in insight generation. But is the researcher still the right and only person suited to get the job done in? Can they see and interpret everything?
