Two out of three (66%) British youngsters aged 15 to 25 expect 2012 to become a better year than the previous one. A mere 9% have a real pessimistic view on the coming year and thinks that maybe last year was better after all. This is why the British Millennials are amongst the more optimistic in the world, so is revealed by the results of a large-scale new youth survey by InSites Consulting amongst more than 4,000 respondents in 16 countries. The results in the USA are comparable with the UK results. About 67% of the youngsters there believe in a better 2012. The most positive opinions were discovered by the research agency in Brazil (81%), Russia (79%) and China (76%). "These are BRIC countries in full economic growth where, contrary to the other countries, youngsters are not confronted with crises and unemployment", says Joeri Van den Bergh, youth expert and co-founder of InSites Consulting.

  • 28 June 2011The 5 ‘coolness’ guidelines at Rock WerchterContacts : No authors

Rock Werchter is getting closer, it‟s as good as a sell-out, and like every year this year loads of youngsters will again travel to Werchter to enjoy a lot of music and the festival ambiance. Many brands will be present at Rock Werchter as well. Studio Brussel and InSites Consulting aimed at finding out what is cool and not cool at festivals and wanted to find out why. That is why InSites Consulting invited some 50 festivalgoers at Rock Werchter last year from different age categories to take pictures for 4 days of everything that stood out as being "cool‟ or "uncool‟. In total this resulted in over 1,200 pictures, made by and commented upon by themselves, which were analysed by the agency. "Our big festival survey last year already taught us that a festival is not just about the music, but also about the ambiance," says Jan Van Biesen, manager at Studio Brussel. "Through this survey we wish to check in a more creative way which parts of a festival are savoured on location and why." Pictures of youngsters, asleep or reading magazines, during the concerts were labelled as "uncool‟. "A multiple day festival like Rock Werchter is also about the social befriending of people you know and don‟t know and allows to escape the daily routine and to really go mental in the temporary "state‟ Rock Werchter, " says Joeri Van den Bergh, Managing Partner at InSites Consulting. "Antisocial behaviour is therefore disapproved of by youngsters these day"

Gen Y, a.k.a. the millennial generation, boys and girls between 14-30, is increasingly entering the job market. Since they are a bigger cohort than their predecessors (Gen X), their influence on society, politics and business the next decades will be higher and comparable to the Babyboomer generation. But this new active generation feels that they are not taken serious at this point. Not only by politicians and the government but also by corporates and brands. After involving more than 25,000 Gen Yers in their daily research practice to stay in touch with the new consumer, MTV Networks (part of the Viacom holding) and InSites Consulting joined forces to write a business book on what Millennials really care for. "We hope to be able to give something back for youth in that way", says Mattias Behrer, co-author and SVP of MTV North Europe. "That‟s why twenty-five per cent of the book royalties will be donated to the Staying Alive Foundation, a global HIV/AIDS charity empowering young people." The release of the book on 3 February is supported by a new global 16 country study delving into the emotions and needs of the young and future generation.

  • 24 July 2009Corporate Social Responsibility begins with consumersContacts : No authors

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a top priority for many companies, but it is still unclear what it does for brands and how they should approach the issue. InSites Consulting performed a worldwide survey and is now sharing the results. When it comes to CSR, consumers put themselves in first place. They look for their own advantage, for themselves and for their immediate environment. In fact, few consumers associate CSR spontaneously with companies or sectors. They consider education and healthcare as the most socially responsible sectors. CSR only becomes added value for consumers when it is relevant and integrated to the company‟s product and brand policies. In these times of economic recession, it is interesting to note that consumers strongly value profitable companies. These are some of the conclusions from the "Corporate Social Responsibility‟ survey performed by InSites Consulting via online group discussions all around the world.

  • 27 October 2008Customer relationships in Europe: a closer look at the finance, telecommunication, airline, tour ... Contacts : No authors

Currently companies are able to manage and monitor 50% of their customer relationships.
This summer, Peppers & Rogers Group / Carlson Marketing and InSites Consulting held the Relationship Monitor 2008, a Pan-European survey of 17,000 people about the perception, the effectiveness and the evolution of customer relationships in six big sectors: finance, the automotive sector, telecommunication companies, tour operators, airlines and retail in eight European countries, i.e. Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Spain and Romania. Product, "Value for moneyi" ratio, sales team, delivery, customer service, communication and rewarding are the 7 principal factors analysed in this survey. On the one hand, they can help companies improve their customer relationship using, among others, a method based on four key contact points. On the other hand, they can identify the elements of interest in the eyes of their customers. In the future the "Value for money" ratio in the field of loyalty programmes will become an element which customers in all sectors will increasingly need to take into account. Another new trend is that customers like to be surprised and want unique experiences. Rather than playing it safe by limiting the risks, companies now offer new products and services that meet everyone's expectations to attract and bind customers. Customer relationships today comprise one-to-one marketing.

Coca-Cola and Nike again at the top
In order to be seen as cool by young people, you must be original, popular and attractive. Friends, music and actors or actresses can be 'cool', according to young people, without too much trouble. But teachers or professors advertising have a much harder time to be seen as cool. For daddies it is no less than three times as hard to be cool than for mommies. Brothers have an easier time than sisters. Young people think cool product categories are: mobile telephones, jeans brands, game consoles and shoes. While banks, temp agencies, travel agencies and coffee and tea brands are facing a major challenge when they want to become cool to young people. Yet, we don't find only cool brands in the product categories with a high cool content. A brand from an industry with little 'cool potential' can yet become cool, provided it uses the correct formula and manipulates the correct chromosomes. This is shown through an extensive study of 1,778 Belgian youngsters between 13 and 29 years-old, that was conducted by market research agency InSites Consulting at the end of August at the request of youth expert MTV Networks.
