In order to cope with our current growth, we decided to start a spin-off to inspire and coach companies on conversation management. We are delighted to announce today that Steven Van Belleghem, author of ‘The Conversation Manager’ and ‘The Conversation Company’, has accepted to take on the lead of this spin-off called B-Conversational. Steven will step down as manager of InSites Consulting to fully focus on this new challenge leading our first spin-off. As an active shareholder of B-Conversational, InSites Consulting will make sure that both companies will remain strategically aligned whilst both can focus on their specific expertise to fuel further growth.
Not only consumers find their way onto the popular social network sites, an increasing number of companies also use it. 61% of companies use Facebook, 39% have a Twitter account, 29% are present on LinkedIn and 24% use YouTube. In the US about 80% of companies is present onf Facebook, 45% have a Twitter account and 48% are present on LinkedIn. This proves that American companies have evolved further in their social media usage in comparison to companies in Europe.
Despite all the buzz around the Dutch football, over 60 people from varying backgrounds (pharma, media, fmcg, government…) found their way to our Dutch office to join our Smartees last Tuesday! People gathered for lunch and a chat before we all headed into the conference room to start the sessions. Ramon Pardo, head of the Dutch office, welcomed everyone and challenged the audience with 3 statements to think about during the presentations.
High social network adoption, low social media integration
More than 1 senior marketer in 3 indicates that their company has either not engaged in or has only just started the integration of social media in their company. 47% are in an experiment stage and 14% indicate that social media is fully integrated in the company. In spite of the low social media integration there is a high social network sites adoption. 68% of the companies have a Facebook page, 56% a Twitter account and 47% a LinkedIn page.
At the annual Stichting Marketing Congress (find keynotes here) in Ghent, Belgium, Steven van Belleghem was privileged to share his vision on collaboration, crowdsourcing and new powerlaws that have developed since the rise of the people’s internet (check out this The Standaard article, Dutch). Social media is a big catalyst in the process of giving the consumer a voice but they go beyond just that: think of the Arab Spring, think of news stories that first break via Twitter. In his talk, Van Belleghem poses the idea of structural collaboration instead of giving the consumers a voice in just some campaigns, as part of strategical public relations-purposes.

Last Thursday at our head office in Ghent, we organized a Smartees about research communities. The day had a double agenda, literally. The morning we talked about research communities and the impact and possibilities for marketers, we dedicated the afternoon for researchers. In the morning we proudly had Steven van Belleghem, Tom De Ruyck and Thomas Troch presenting, in the afternoon, Prof. Dr. Niels Schillewaert presented about online research and the enacting of stakeholders, followed by Tom and Thomas, again. In this article, you’ll find the presentations and a take-away from what is said and done.
Are you ready to join the conversation? Join our Communities Smartees on Thursday 16 June in our Ghent office. This time we go beyond the basics of Communities and give you insights into new cases, applied gamification, new techniques of our ForwaR&D Lab and how to engage your company in the community. To make sure you get the right take-aways for your team, we set up a morning session for marketers and an afternoon session for researchers.
As always, our Smartees offer time to network with your colleagues from across the industry. They’re free and you’ll leave with plenty of tips and practical strategies to get a community working in your organisation. Sign up today to be sure of your place.
